Lenovo Ideapad 720-15IKB Review, 15 inch notebook RX550 i5 Kaby Full IPS

Top Features : Full HD IPS matte, Core i5 Kaby Lake, Radeon RX 550, 8GB, 1TB, USB-C

Lenovo returns with a new version of its latest IdeaPad in 15-inch multimedia, the Lenovo Ideapad 720-15IKB (81AG000SFR). Provided with the recent AMD Polaris RX 550, it takes on the graphic scale to give a favorable amplitude to the casual game. Opposite, its base consists of a Core i5 Kaby Lake, 8 GB of RAM and storage capacity. A beautiful Full HD IPS matt completes the deal as well as a Type-C USB connector and a biometric reader, for less than 800 euros .

As is often customary at Lenovo, the PC prefers a sober uniformly gray design. The nice surprise comes from its aluminum-based design (on the cover and the turn of the keyboard) and the care given to the finishes. One notable is a polished edge around the base and the touchpad and a quality assembly. The measurements are in the good average with a reasonable weight of 2.1 kg, a thickness of 21.7 mm and a compact chassis that still arrives to contain a touchpad. The presence of a keyboard backlight system is assumed but not confirmed by Lenovo.

If the exterior look remains sober, the components of this Ideapad 720-15IKB should retain a little more attention. It features a low-power Core i5 Kaby Lake with 8 GB of RAM, a duo that offers enough responders to perform office tasks such as surfing the web, working on Office or playing video, even the ability to do some photo editing (Photoshop lightweight). Moreover, thanks to the RAM in sufficient quantity, the collectors of tabs on the navigator will be able to give to heart with joy.

Another advantage of this PC, the graphic part is entrusted to the AMD Radeon RX 550, a dedicated graphic card of last generation Polaris positioned on the mid-range. In terms of performance, it is positioned a slight notch below the GeForce Pascal MX150. In other words, it is intended for casual gamers little concerned about details. All the titles of the market can pass in Full HD provided to lower considerably the level of details, the most comfortable remaining the game on a lowered definition (1366 x 768 px).

The screen is far from indifferent either. Based on an IPS matte edge-to-edge, it features a dense definition Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) that offers all the flexibility to enjoy your High Definition content and to modulate the display of the windows on the screen. Comfort is ensured by wide viewing angles, a respected color spectrum and an anti-reflective surface for easy visibility to the image in high ambient light.

The storage is for its part ensured by a hard disk of 1000 GB. No SSD dedicated to the program therefore, which removes a part of reactivity very precious these days. Nevertheless, the capacity is generous thanks to the hard disk and makes it possible to lodge a well-stocked library. Namely that a M.2 slot (PCIe interface) is free if the need to add an SSD is felt (no maintenance door).

As for the connectivity, it follows the good general level with a multiformat SD card reader, an HDMI output and three USB ports including two USB 3.0 and a USB 3.1 Type-C. The latest generations of Wifi AC and Bluetooth 4.1 modules are also on the menu for faster and more reliable wireless data exchanges. And to secure access to your session and enjoy the functions of Windows Hello, a fingerprint reader takes place at the bottom right of the keyboard.

Our opinion (September 2017) : The Lenovo IdeaPad 720-15IKB (81AG000SFR) is available at this time at 799 euros at Cdiscount . In its category, it faces some gamer models but emerges as being one of the only integrating a dedicated graphics card Polaris on our price comparator .
